How to Pack Light for a Spring or Summer Road Trip in Your Toyota

2022 Toyota Tundra | High River, AB

With the weather improving here in High River, you might be looking for ways to enjoy the outdoors and see more of Canada. One way to do so is by taking a road trip in your Toyota! Our team at High River Toyota put together these tips for packing light for your next journey.

1. Leave Some Bathroom Items at Home

If you’re planning on staying in a hotel during your trip, there’s a high chance that you will find complimentary items like shampoo, conditioner, and lotion in your room. Rather than bulking up your bathroom bag, skip some of these items and others that you don’t absolutely need on the road.

2. Try the 1-2-3-4-5-6 Rule

If you’re going on a shorter trip, the editors at REI.com recommend the 1-2-3-4-5-6 rule, which suggests bringing 1 hat, 2 pairs of shoes, 3 bottoms, 4 tops, 5 pairs of socks, and 6 pairs of underwear (plus a bra for those who wear one). While this requires you to wear some items more than once, it allows freedom to not lug around a large suitcase wherever you go.

3. Ditch the portable tech

Let’s face it; you’re not going on a road trip to stare at your laptop or portable gaming console, right? You want to enjoy the world around you and remove yourself from the internet for a bit. Rather than relying on all of that tech, only bring the essentials (like your smartphone, charger, and small headphones) to keep it simple.

These are just a few tips for packing light on your next road trip. Let us know if you have any additional tips when you stop by and see us!

Meet the First-Ever Toyota GR Corolla

The Corolla has been part of the Toyota lineup for decades and has seen quite a few changes over the years. One of the most recent developments arrives in the form of the first-ever Toyota GR Corolla — a heart-pumping version of the already popular car.

The “GR” comes from TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, a team that prides itself on creating vehicles with outstanding performance, handling, and functionality. In fact, the new GR Corolla is powered by a direct/port-injected three-cylinder engine that delivers 300 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. That robust engine is paired with the GR Four All-Wheel-Drive powertrain to offer varying power distribution to the front and rear wheels for maximum control.

Along with playing the part of a performance vehicle, the GR Corolla is also incredibly stylish. The Core grade comes in white, black, and Supersonic Red colour options while the Circuit Edition will be available in white, Supersonic Red, and Heavy Metal. The Circuit Edition model also adds a forged carbon fibre roof, a rear spoiler, and a vented bulge hood. Inside, the Brin Naub® suede-trimmed seats with red accents round out the athleticism of this new car.

You don’t have to give up on a fun car when you’ve got kids, though! The new GR Corolla is also equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 system. This includes driver-assist features like Risk Avoidance Emergency Steering, Lane Departure, and more.

Pricing and availability for the all-new 2023 Toyota GR Corolla will arrive later this year. Until then, stay tuned and contact our team at High River Toyota in Alberta for more details.

Tips for Easter Dinner and Your Toyota

2022 Toyota Sequoia | High River, AB

Easter is just around the corner and other than spending time with family, one of the most enjoyable traditions is eating a delicious meal. If you plan on traveling somewhere with food in the car, we’ve put together these tips for transporting Easter dinner in your Toyota.

Slow Cooker Travel Tips

A slow cooker, like the Crockpot™, is helpful for cooking a large, delicious meal. But when you transport one of these that is full of hot food, the lid can become loose and cause its contents to spill in your car. First, try finding a slow cooker with a locking lid. If you don’t have a locking lid, try wrapping the slow cooker in towels and wedge it in place between the front- and second-row seats on the floor.

Hot Casserole Travel Tips

A casserole dish can have a similar issue as a crock-pot when it comes to loose lids. However, most casserole dishes are less soup-y and can withstand a few tiny bumps in the road. But to help keep it hot on the way to your destination, place it in an insulated bag or wrap it in towels to keep the heat in as much as possible.

Cold Food Travel Tips

For short trips, transporting cold food is a breeze; just keep the lid on and try to avoid blasting the heat in your car. But if you’re traveling further than a 10-minute drive, consider placing the cold food item container on ice in a cooler to keep it fresh.

Here at High River Toyota, we wish you a Happy Easter and hope you stay safe during all of your traveling.

Build Safe Driving Habits with These New Year’s Resolutions

2022 Toyota Tundra | High River, AB

Cultivating safe driving habits is a great way to protect yourself and everyone else around you in High River, Alberta. Whether you’re already doing great or need a refresher, these New Year’s resolutions for the road will keep you focused heading into 2022.

Don’t drive distracted

This is a really important one. Put your phone away when you drive — reading or sending that text isn’t worth the risk of a serious collision. It’s also a good idea to reduce other distractions, like talking to passengers or interacting with your navigation system.

Stick to the speed limit

Driving over the speed limit puts you at greater risk for a crash, so slow down — and leave a little earlier to give yourself more time to travel. As a secondary benefit, sticking to the posted speed limit can also help you save money on gas.

Keep up with service

Keeping up with vehicle service should be one of your highest-priority New Year’s resolutions. Regular oil changes and tire rotations will help your vehicle last longer — and operate more safely, too.

Ready to start 2022 the right way? Our service team here at High River Toyota is ready and waiting to help you get caught up on maintenance and more.

Toyota Dream Car Art Contest Focuses on the Next Generation

Toyota has always been at the forefront of producing family-oriented vehicles. But after this past year, the brand looked to the children of Canada to see an even brighter, safer future. Thanks to the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest, nine children were recently recognized for creating new vehicles that they believe will help the world be a better place.

Toyota Dream Car Art Contest | Alberta, CA

“Over the years, the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest has evolved from an art competition to an opportunity for children to bring forward their world-changing ideas,” said Larry Hutchinson, President and CEO of Toyota Canada and one of this year’s Canadian judges. “I’m truly impressed by their ideas — from making our planet more sustainable, to fighting virus and bacteria, to making the world more inclusive through physical accessibility.”

Many young Canadians shared their versions of a “dream car.” Three finalists were chosen from the three different age groups — each offering incredible inspiration and creativity. From a car that protects polar bears from global warming to a flying vehicle that purifies the air, the entries were truly amazing.

As a company that’s continuously looking to the future, Toyota knows how important it is to invest in the youth of Canada. After all, they are our soon-to-be engineers, artists, doctors, and maybe even car designers. Our team at High River Toyota is very impressed with the skills and thought these children put forth in their entries and we look forward to next year’s contest.

Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Car

Spring has sprung, so it’s time to start the warmer weather out on the right foot. So, why not give your car a good spring cleaning? Here are some tips to help you get your car clean for spring drives in High River, AB.

Spring Cleaning Your Car | High River Toyota | High River, AB

Give the exterior some love. From salt to hail to general winter grime, your car’s exterior has undergone a beating during the winter. One of the big ways you can spring clean your car is to clean its exterior. This can help reduce the damage winter can do to your vehicle over time, reducing the likelihood of rust and more.

Don’t forget the car’s undercarriage. Over the winter, salt can sit on the bottom of your car. This can cause it to rust down the road, so while you’re spring cleaning your car, make sure you give the undercarriage a thorough cleaning, too.

Tidy up your interior. Trash can gather over the winter, especially when it’s too cold to clean out your vehicle regularly. Gather any rubbish that’s littering your cabin, then give it a thorough vacuuming. Also, don’t forget to take out your floor mats and clean them as well, using a carpet cleaner if you have carpet or warm, soapy water for rubber mats.

Make sure your vehicle is as safe as it is clean this spring when you schedule a seasonal service appointment with us here at High River Toyota.

AWD vs FWD: What’s Right for You?

There many decisions that you need to make when buying a new car. In Alberta, one of the biggest choices is whether you need front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive on your new vehicle. This comparison will define each drive system option, explain their benefits, and help you pick which option is ideal for traveling through the High River area.

2020 Toyota Camry | High River Toyota | Calgary, AB

All-Wheel Drive

All-wheel drive (AWD) sends the power from the engine to every wheel of your vehicle. Because of this, your wheels will compensate if one loses traction, allowing your vehicle to better grip slippery roads. There are a wide range of AWD systems to choose from and, luckily, many Toyota vehicles come equipped with varying versions of them. AWD isn’t only an option on SUVs; the 2020 and 2021 Camry are available with all-wheel drive, too.

Front-Wheel Drive

As you might guess from its name, front-wheel drive (FWD) sends power to the two front wheels. It’s a simpler system than AWD, which means it’s easier to maintain and tends to be more fuel efficient. FWD gives you solid traction when climbing hills and in rainy conditions, while additional features like anti-lock braking and traction control make them good in the snow as well.

As you can see, there are benefits to both AWD and FWD. It all depends on where you want to go in your new vehicle. Contact our team at High River Toyota to find out which vehicle is right for you.
