Over the past decade, cars have taken giant steps toward fully autonomous driving. Toyota is looking to take this one step further with the all-new Toyota LQ Concept Car. This concept vehicle, displayed at the “Future Expo” special exhibition of the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, looks to create an emotional bond between car and driver.
The LQ is a concept car that offers automated driving
options, and it also comes with “Yui,” an artificial intelligence-powered
interactive agent. Yui is designed to learn from the driver’s habits, allowing
it to deliver a tailored driving experience.
Yui will engage with the driver through interactive voice
communications, ambient lightning, air conditioning, fragrances, and in-seat
functions that look to reduce stress and increase alertness. This AI will can
even play the music you want based on driving environment, while also providing
you with real-time information on topics you’re interested in while you’re travelling.
“With the LQ, we are proud to propose a vehicle that can
deliver a personalized experience, meet each driver’s unique mobility needs,
and build an even stronger bond between car and driver,” said Daisuke Ido, LQ
Along with the advanced human-to-machine interactions that
Yui will provide, the LQ concept car will also offer a range of advanced
automated driving technologies. This includes an Automated Valet Parking
System, which will drive itself between a drop-off spot and an assigned parking
space in a nearby parking lot.

When you’re behind the wheel, it’s important that you follow the rules of the road. You should also drive defensively, which means anticipating potential hazards. But how do you practice defensive driving? These tips should help you become a better defensive driver.
Stay alert and avoid distractions. To drive
defensively, you need to be aware of your surroundings. That means you shouldn’t
drive when you’re not alert, so avoid any possible distractions. This includes
your phone, radio, or eating while driving.
Keep a safe following distance. You need plenty of
space between you and the car in front of you so you can stop with enough space
to avoid a collision. Consider following the three-second rule. It should take
you at least three seconds to catch up with them if they come to a full stop.
Increase this time to six seconds if it’s nighttime or if there’s bad weather.
Drive at a safe speed. Speed limits exist to keep you
safe. Staying within this range will allow you to anticipate potential hazards
Check your mirrors. Being aware of your surroundings
is imperative to defensive driving. Continually check your mirrors so you know
where pedestrians, other vehicles, and other obstacles are at all times.
The vehicles at High River Toyota have many safety tools installed to help you become a safer driver.
The Toyota Corolla is the brand’s best-selling model. It’s
been in the Canadian market for more than 50 years, offering spunky
performance, sporty style, and innovative technologies.
For the 2020 model year, the Corolla wants to show off its dark side. Toyota recently announced the 2020 Toyota Corolla Nightshade Edition, the newest styling that offers an intimidating silhouette for the compact car.
This head-turning version will come with blacked-out badging
all around, while also boasting a black grille surround and black-painted
rocker panels. The black side mirrors will have integrated turn signals and
will also be heated and power-adjustable. Other black accents will be
noticeable on the window trim, door handles, rear spoiler, and lower diffuser
Blacked-out 18-inch alloy wheels will complete the
Nightshade package, along with a black roof-mounted shark fin antenna. You can
opt for this model in one of three exterior colours: Super White, Classic
Silver Metallic, or Black Sand Pearl.
The Corolla is the fourth Toyota model to offer a Nightshade
Edition. The 4Runner, Highlander, and Sienna are also available with these blacked-out
accents. Toyota has yet to release the

The 2020 Toyota GR Supra combines legendary performance with
agile handing, making it a fun-to-drive option in the brand’s lineup. This
sports car comes equipped with a 3.0-litre twin-scroll turbocharged inline-six
engine, which pumps out 335 horsepower and 365 lb.-ft. of torque.
It comes paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission

Available safety features include Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Parking Sensors.
The Toyota lineup is about to get two new automatic features that continue its tradition of practical innovation and convenience: Automatic Engine Shut Off and Automatic Park.
Automatic Engine Shut Off will be available with most 2020
Toyota models. This feature will automatically turn off your vehicle’s engine
after a pre-determined length of time if your Toyota is left running, helping
reduce the impact its idling has on the environment.
Currently, Toyota has a two-step alert that notifies you
when the engine is running, requesting the engine to be turned off. This new
automatic feature is just the next step forward.
Starting with the 2020 Toyota models, the brand will also
begin to phase in Automatic Park. This technology will help reduce the risk of
roll-away, automatically shifting the vehicle into park and/or apply the
electronic parking brake if the driver exits the vehicle without placing the
vehicle in park. Automatic Park will be available in vehicles with electronic
Toyota currently utilizes audible and visual cues to warn drivers exiting the vehicle if their car is not in park.
When these new automatic features on the Toyota lineup arrive later this year, you’ll be able to test them out at High River Toyota.
If you’re looking for a new vehicle that will be perfect for your family, look no further than the 2020 Toyota Sienna. This minivan is back and ready to hit the road – no matter where your adventures will take you and your family.
For the 2020 model year, the Sienna will turn heads with a

Connected Services by Toyota Audio with Scout® GPS Link navigation.
The 2020 Sienna also now can come in the new Nightshade
Edition. This package shows off the minivan’s dark side, adding sophistication with
black exterior accents, including on the outer mirrors, exterior door handles,
window trim, rear spoiler, taillight surrounds, and badges.

It’s no secret that the Toyota RAV4 carved out the compact crossover SUV segment when it arrived in Canada 22 years ago. But now, the 2019 Toyota RAV4, heralding in the fifth generation, seeks to revolutionize the segment with some major updates to improve versatility, handling, fuel economy, and comfort.
For starters, the new powertrains offered on the 2019 RAV4
boost performance while simultaneously improving fuel economy. The new
powertrains include the Dynamic Force 2.5-liter engine the Toyota Hybrid System
In addition, second-generation Toyota Safety Sense (TSS 2.0)
is standard across the RAV4 lineup. This includes a Pre-Collision System with
Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane
Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beam, and Lane Tracing
Assist (new). In addition, Toyota has added even more features and
functionality to the standard Entune™ 3.0 system, which now boasts Apple
Toyota has “refined” and “re-defined” the 2019 RAV4 with an
updated interior that feels more upscale and “premium” than ever before. The
interior boasts user-friendly multimedia technology, sophisticated interior
materials, and comfort and convenience features such as standard two-zone front
heated seats and a wider centre console. The RAV4 is even available with a
wireless charging pad for smartphones.
What makes the 2019 Toyota Highlander perfect for road
trips? For starters, it can seat up to seven or eight passengers (depending on
whether you go with the bench seat or captain’s chairs for the second row).
Either way, you will have lots of space for luggage — especially if you fold
down the rear seats during a solo or two-person road trip.
The 2019 Highlander also has three hybrid models in the
lineup for incredible fuel savings on long distances. Even the non-hybrid
models get incredible fuel economy, however. In fact, the gas-powered
Highlander can achieve up to 32 miles per gallon on the highway — that’s 8.7 L/100km.*
Technology is also an important piece of the road trip puzzle,
and the Highlander has plenty of it. The backup camera makes reversing in
unfamiliar territory much safer while the 6.1-inch touch screen audio system
makes connectivity on the go a piece of cake. Three zone independent climate
control and available heated seats keep passengers comfortable on long trips.
“Canadians know the Toyota Highlander is the perfect choice
to create family adventures and memories to last a lifetime,” explained Cyril
Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “Ready for weekend getaways, and
comfortable enough for daily driving, the Toyota Highlander has the safety,
driving fun and features that let Canadians focus on the journey — wherever
life takes them.”
