The 2023 Highlander will be available with a hybrid powertrain as well as a gas-powered option. All gas models have received a new, turbocharged V6 engine that offers 17% more torque than the outgoing engine. This new engine is also eco-friendlier, emitting 50% fewer emissions. The Highlander Hybrid offers an incredible 6.7 L/100 km combined and features regenerative braking to help capture more energy for fewer stops at the pump.
The new Toyota Multimedia system is standard on all grades of the 2023 Highlander. The base model has an 8-inch display with the option of upgrading to an expansive 12.3-inch touch screen. This new system includes enhanced connectivity and convenience via features like Over-the-Air (OTA) updates and an Intelligent Assistant. By saying “Hey Toyota,” you can use natural voice commands for things like directions, hands-free text messaging, and more.
You’ll find a variety of convenient features on the new Toyota Highlander, too. A hands-free power liftgate is available on all grades, making it easy to load and unload cargo into the SUV. That amenity and rain-sensing wipers are standard on the Bronze Edition model, which also comes with captain’s chairs and premium seating materials with bronze-coloured stitching.
Some things about vehicle ownership are inevitable. Flat tires and dead batteries are two common issues, but one often overlooked repair is when you get a chip or crack in your car’s windshield. Whether a rock flew up while you were driving or some other reason, it’s vital to take care of the damage as soon as possible.
Most times, you won’t notice a crack or chip in your vehicle’s windshield until you get behind the wheel and start your journey. Even the smallest issue can be a big visibility concern. If you have to adjust your position in the driver’s seat to see around, above, or below a windshield flaw, call our team at High River Toyota to take care of it.
Not only can a crack or chip be a visibility issue, but it can also cause the integrity of your car’s windshield to falter. According to Reader’s Digest Canada, “A cracked windshield has a greater chance of shattering or causing an accident.”

With the weather improving here in High River, you might be looking for ways to enjoy the outdoors and see more of Canada. One way to do so is by taking a road trip in your Toyota! Our team at High River Toyota put together these tips for packing light for your next journey.
1. Leave Some Bathroom Items at Home
If you’re planning on staying in a hotel during your trip, there’s a high chance that you will find complimentary items like shampoo, conditioner, and lotion in your room. Rather than bulking up your bathroom bag, skip some of these items and others that you don’t absolutely need on the road.
2. Try the 1-2-3-4-5-6 Rule
If you’re going on a shorter trip, the editors at REI.com recommend the 1-2-3-4-5-6 rule, which suggests bringing 1 hat, 2 pairs of shoes, 3 bottoms, 4 tops, 5 pairs of socks, and 6 pairs of underwear (plus a bra for those who wear one). While this requires you to wear some items more than once, it allows freedom to not lug around a large suitcase wherever you go.
3. Ditch the portable tech
Let’s face it; you’re not going on a road trip to stare at your laptop or portable gaming console, right? You want to enjoy the world around you and remove yourself from the internet for a bit. Rather than relying on all of that tech, only bring the essentials (like your smartphone, charger, and small headphones) to keep it simple.
These are just a few tips for packing light on your next road trip. Let us know if you have any additional tips when you stop by and see us!
The “GR” comes from TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, a team that prides itself on creating vehicles with outstanding performance, handling, and functionality. In fact, the new GR Corolla is powered by a direct/port-injected three-cylinder engine that delivers 300 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. That robust engine is paired with the GR Four All-Wheel-Drive powertrain to offer varying power distribution to the front and rear wheels for maximum control.
Along with playing the part of a performance vehicle, the GR Corolla is also incredibly stylish. The Core grade comes in white, black, and Supersonic Red colour options while the Circuit Edition will be available in white, Supersonic Red, and Heavy Metal. The Circuit Edition model also adds a forged carbon fibre roof, a rear spoiler, and a vented bulge hood. Inside, the Brin Naub® suede-trimmed seats with red accents round out the athleticism of this new car.
You don’t have to give up on a fun car when you’ve got kids, though! The new GR Corolla is also equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 system. This includes driver-assist features like Risk Avoidance Emergency Steering, Lane Departure, and more.

Paddleboarding is an amazing way to relax on the water and explore new places. But before you can get your board on the water, you need to bring it there — and loading a non-inflatable paddleboard onto a car can be a tricky job.
With a Roof Rack
The best way to transport a paddleboard is with SUP-specific rack mounted on your vehicle’s crossbars. There are many paddleboard-compatible racks on the market, including some that enable you to carry more than one. For safe transport, make sure to read directions closely.
Without a Roof Rack
It’s possible to transport a paddleboard without a rack or even without crossbars. In the former case, you can tie the paddleboard directly to the crossbars, but you’ll need to add padding to ensure the bars don’t damage the board. If your car has a smooth roof, then you can consider investing in a soft inflatable roof rack, such as one made of foam.
In a Truck
If you drive a truck, your paddleboard likely extends past the length of the bed. Put padding over the tailgate and then tie the board down as close to the tailgate as possible using side rails or your truck’s tie-down mounts. If the paddleboard extends past the tailgate by more than a few feet, you should hang a red or orange flag from the board. It may be required by law.
At High River Toyota, you can buy genuine Toyota parts and accessories that make it easier to mount paddleboards as well as other equipment. Visit our website or our store in High River, Alberta, for a closer look!
Whether you’re new to the sport or you just want to get back out on the slopes, skiing is a great way to spend time outdoors in winter. To help you figure out where to go in your capable Tundra or adventurous Highlander, our team at High River Toyota has listed some of the best places to ski in Alberta.
Banff Sunshine Village
Thanks to its large size and variety of options, Banff Sunshine Village makes a lot of “best of” lists for skiing. The most unique part about this resort is that it’s not located near a parking lot and is actually at the end of a 15-minute gondola ride. The resort is comprised of three areas — Lookout Mountain, Mount Standish, and Goat’s Eye Mountain — totaling 3,358 acres of terrain with the highest point at 8,954 feet.
A little further north is where you’ll find Marmot Basin near Jasper. Although it’s a smaller resort, its base elevation is an impressive 5,570 feet, meaning you have a longer season to ski (typically from November to May). There are 91 runs waiting for you, including starter options to quite a few black and double black routes.
Lake Louise Ski Resort
Often described as a must-visit spot, Lake Louise Ski Resort has been home to several World Cup ski events over the years. The resort boasts a daunting 3,250-foot vertical drop as well as breathtaking views atop Whitehorn Mountain. Last year, the resort added a new quad chair lift in the West Bowl advanced skiers area.
These are just a few of the best places to head out on the slopes in Alberta. What other spots would you recommend?
