An Eco-Friendly Corolla

The Super Supra

After being discontinued 16 years ago, one of Toyota’s most beloved performance options is back. The brand reintroduced the Supra to its lineup, offering state-of-the-art features and technologies in a sporty package. This vehicle comes with a front-mounted 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine, providing you with the power you expect from a performance-oriented ride.

How to Practice Defensive Driving

When you’re behind the wheel, it’s important that you follow the rules of the road. You should also drive defensively, which means anticipating potential hazards. But how do you practice defensive driving? These tips should help you become a better defensive driver.

Stay alert and avoid distractions. To drive defensively, you need to be aware of your surroundings. That means you shouldn’t drive when you’re not alert, so avoid any possible distractions. This includes your phone, radio, or eating while driving.

Keep a safe following distance. You need plenty of space between you and the car in front of you so you can stop with enough space to avoid a collision. Consider following the three-second rule. It should take you at least three seconds to catch up with them if they come to a full stop. Increase this time to six seconds if it’s nighttime or if there’s bad weather.

Drive at a safe speed. Speed limits exist to keep you safe. Staying within this range will allow you to anticipate potential hazards easily.

Check your mirrors. Being aware of your surroundings is imperative to defensive driving. Continually check your mirrors so you know where pedestrians, other vehicles, and other obstacles are at all times.

The vehicles at High River Toyota have many safety tools installed to help you become a safer driver.

2020 Toyota Corolla Nightshade Edition Goes Dark

The Toyota Corolla is the brand’s best-selling model. It’s been in the Canadian market for more than 50 years, offering spunky performance, sporty style, and innovative technologies.

For the 2020 model year, the Corolla wants to show off its dark side. Toyota recently announced the 2020 Toyota Corolla Nightshade Edition, the newest styling that offers an intimidating silhouette for the compact car.

This head-turning version will come with blacked-out badging all around, while also boasting a black grille surround and black-painted rocker panels. The black side mirrors will have integrated turn signals and will also be heated and power-adjustable. Other black accents will be noticeable on the window trim, door handles, rear spoiler, and lower diffuser area.

Blacked-out 18-inch alloy wheels will complete the Nightshade package, along with a black roof-mounted shark fin antenna. You can opt for this model in one of three exterior colours: Super White, Classic Silver Metallic, or Black Sand Pearl.

The Corolla is the fourth Toyota model to offer a Nightshade Edition. The 4Runner, Highlander, and Sienna are also available with these blacked-out accents. Toyota has yet to release the

Corolla Nightshade Edition’s Canadian price tag, but we should expect to get more information on this soon. Until then, you can find other versions of the Corolla here at High River Toyota

New Automatic Features on the Toyota Lineup Coming for 2020

2020 Auto Features | High River Toyota | Calgary, AB

The Toyota lineup is about to get two new automatic features that continue its tradition of practical innovation and convenience: Automatic Engine Shut Off and Automatic Park.

Automatic Engine Shut Off will be available with most 2020 Toyota models. This feature will automatically turn off your vehicle’s engine after a pre-determined length of time if your Toyota is left running, helping reduce the impact its idling has on the environment.

Currently, Toyota has a two-step alert that notifies you when the engine is running, requesting the engine to be turned off. This new automatic feature is just the next step forward.

Starting with the 2020 Toyota models, the brand will also begin to phase in Automatic Park. This technology will help reduce the risk of roll-away, automatically shifting the vehicle into park and/or apply the electronic parking brake if the driver exits the vehicle without placing the vehicle in park. Automatic Park will be available in vehicles with electronic shifters.

Toyota currently utilizes audible and visual cues to warn drivers exiting the vehicle if their car is not in park.

When these new automatic features on the Toyota lineup arrive later this year, you’ll be able to test them out at High River Toyota.

Increasing Fuel Costs Affect Canadian Road Trip Plans

Rising Fuel Costs | High River, AB

Canada is lucky to have a wealth of wonderful road trip destinations, from Quebec City’s historical charm to the outdoor adventures Alberta and BC have to offer. For many Canadians, the summer has been about exploring what our great country has to offer – until now.

According to a recent survey completed by Ipsos on behalf of Toyota Canada, 47 percent of Canadians stated that an increase in fuel prices have caused them to put off their summer road trip this year. 27 percent of Canadians are even thinking of cancelling existing road trip plans to avoid having to pay extra at the pump.

Despite these high gas prices, though, many are hoping to get their Canadian road trip plans back on track, at least in the future. Toyota Canada Inc. noted that a record 16.7 percent of its total sales in April were for electrified vehicles, including the all-new RAV4 Hybrid. This is a sign that, rather than hoping that the gas prices will decrease in the future, Canadians are instead going green, reducing their carbon footprint while saving money at the gas pump.

This is good news, since Toyota is planning to expand its hybrid and electric lineup even more. Currently, the Japanese carmaker’s green lineup includes the RAV4 Hybrid, Prius Prime, Corolla Hybrid, and Mirai hydrogen-powered fuel-cell vehicle.

High River Toyota is looking forward to having these eco-friendly models in stock for you. For now, we carry current hybrid Toyota offerings. Check out our inventory online.

All-New 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Makes Going Green Simple

2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid | High River, AB

Over the past decades, the Toyota Corolla has made a name for itself as one of the most popular vehicles in the automotive industry. Now, it’s looking to continue that streak by appealing to a new audience: those going green.

Toyota has introduced the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid for the first time in Canada.

“We had a lot of requests on the previous-generation Corolla about, ‘Why do you not have a hybrid?’” said Scott MacKenzie, Toyota Canada’s senior national manager for external affairs. “We’ve had hybrid available on Corolla variants in other markets around the world, so they just decided it was an appropriate time to put one in North America.”

The 2020 Corolla Hybrid uses the same powertrain as the current Prius, which is 1.8-litre inline four-cylinder engine that works with two motors to put out a total system output of 121 horsepower. With this power, this eco-friendly sedan boasts a fuel-efficiency rating of 4.4 L/100 km in the city and 4.5 L/100 km on the highway.

Along with these better fuel-efficiency numbers, this all-new Toyota will also come standard with an eight-inch display, heated front seats, Toyota Connected Services, a Blind Spot Monitor, and the Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 package.

We’ll have the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid here at High River Toyota when it’s released, as well as the standard Corolla for the 2019 and 2020 model years. Browse our inventory online here.

2020 Toyota Highlander | High River Toyota | High River, AB

The 2020 Toyota Highlander, which debuted earlier this year at the New York International Auto Show, offers a bold new style, innovative safety features, a long list of technologies, and five trim levels to choose from, including the new base L grade, LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum.

For the 2020 model year, the Highlander also comes with a new vehicle platform called the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-K). This foundation is more robust and provides a smoother, safer ride for consumers.

The fourth-generation Highlander will offer two powertrain options – a V6 or a hybrid. The V6 engine will offer an estimated fuel-efficiency rating of 10.7 L/100 km combined,* while the hybrid powertrain will offer 6.9 L/100 km combined.

Safety-wise, the new Highlander will come standard with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite of safety technologies.
